Forward Tipping Dumper

The forward tipping dumper course is designed for the operator who requires theoretical and practical instruction at basic level, in operating a dumper in a construction environment.

It is also applicable to those experienced operators who require refresher training.


Wheeled / Articulated

Light – up to 3.5 tonnes

Medium – up to 7.5 tonnes

Heavy – over 7.5 tonnes


Course Content

• Understand the risks involved in operating a forward tipping dumper and the measures required to control the risk.

• Understand the legal requirements involved in construction operations with a dumper

• Identify the basic construction, purpose and function of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges.

• How to carry out all pre-use and running checks.

• Travel over differing types of terrain including rough undulating ground, both loaded & unloaded state ensuring stability and control.

• Travel up and down substantial inclines both loaded & unloaded.

• Position dumper to receive loads and follow loading procedures.

• Discharge loads into trenches or over edges.

• Place the dumper in an out of service condition.

Duration: The duration of the course is between 1 - 2 days dependent on experience with a maximum training ratio of 3 students to 1 instructor.

Venue: Can be carried out at our training school in Eastleigh or at an employer’s premises. (Subject to the type and capacity of equipment).

Assessment: At the end of the course students will undergo a formal written test on all theoretical subjects covered and a practical assessment on their basic skills.

Accreditation: NPORS or LETS certificate
